UCP NATIONAL LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS

Life Without Limits is a nationwide project sponsored by the national United Cerebral Palsy organization.  "Life Without Limits" aims to develop a more effective and thorough model of delivering services to children and adults with disabilities.  The first step is to raise awareness of the need for continued support services for individuals with disabilities.  By researching current improvements in technology and advocating the integration of new and advanced services, we can further improve the daily lives of those with disabilities.

Life Without Limits community sessions have been taking place around the country and in SLO County to brainstorm ways to enhance and improve individualized services and redevelop funding streams for children and adults with disabilities living in the Central Coast area.

In Life Without Limits Week, UCP of San Luis Obispo has paired with San Luis Obispo Access for All (AFA) to create a series of events that will serve not only adults and children with disabilities, but also the seniors, veterans, families, caregivers and healthcare professionals who are interested in improving the quality of life for people with all types of disabilities.  Life Without Limits Week features three events, the Abilities Fair, Farmers Market Night and Paul Wolff Accessibility Advocacy Awards (PWAAAs).

The Abilities Fair is a local venue that gives the aforementioned categories of people access to a large network of independent and assisted living services, products, programs and equipment.  Participants and vendors alike have the opportunity to socialize and network while learning about cutting edge products and new services from both private sector and public agencies.   The Abilities Fair 2012 will be held on April 13th, 2012 at the Veterans Hall in San Luis Obispo between 9am - 3pm.    If you are interested in being a vendor for the Abilities Fair or you would like more information please contact Jason Portugal, Technology Coordinator of UCP San Luis Obispo by email: jmportugal@ucp-slo.org or phone 805.541.8747.

The Farmers Market Night allows similar networking, showcasing and socialization but takes place during the most popular recurring event in San Luis Obispo County, the Thursday evening Farmers Market Night in downtown San Luis Obispo. Vendors have the opportunity to interface with a broad audience and show the general public new and excited technologies and services.  The 2012 Life Without Limits Farmers Market Night will take place on Thursday, April 19th, 2012 and will be held on the South Side of Garden Street where Higuera and Garden intersect in downtown San Luis Obispo.  To be a vendor in the Farmers Market event, you must participate in the Abilities Fair. Please contact Jason Portugal by email: jmportugal@ucp-slo.org or phone: 805.541.8747 to learn more.

The week appropriately closes out with the Paul Wolff Accessibility Advocacy Awards (PWAAAs) where we host a gathering of people to celebrate those who have positively affected the lives of people with disabilities.   The PWAAA recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses who have contributed their time, efforts and energy towards creating a barrier-free community for all people with disabilities.  The PWAAA 2012 will take place on Friday, April 20th at the Chumash Auditorium in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  For more information, please contact Janice Fong-Wolf by email: jwolf@sloccf.org.
